In the United States, 35.5 million people - including 12.6 million children, live in households that experience hunger or are at risk of hunger. This represents more than one in ten households. This number came out BEFORE the current economic crisis. We serve meals at various shelters and soup kitchens, and the location and scope changes depending on the number of volunteers. We can meet to make the meals to deliver them to various missions and shelters, or we can actually serve the meals ourselves. Last time we served meals at a Salvation Army facility, the children did most of the work; from making the table, 'assembling' the sandwiches, to serving the food...who said children have to be in "child-care" while the adults do 'ministry'!
