A coalition of anti-human trafficking organizations and the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force will be holding a ground-breaking rally to raise awareness about human trafficking in Maryland. There will be speakers, some live entertainment and information sessions/booths by organizations dedicated to combat modern-day slavery. We are doing this to bring awareness to the citizens of Maryland who are interested to learn about modern-day slavery that goes on in our 'back-yard' and to meet various organizations which are in the region to combat human trafficking. Our hope is that greater public awareness will lead to deeper community involvement to combat human trafficking in Maryland and to help those who became victim to this crime. Today, there are estimated 27 million slaves around the world, including our communities in Washington, D.C. This new form of modern slavery, also known as human trafficking, involves the complete control of one person by another for the purpose of economic exploitation. Its victims work under the threat of violence and its perpetrators use powerful methods of force, fraud and coercion. So let's get together to do something about it!
